How to choose the specifications of heavy hex bolts according to needs?

2025-04-14

Choosing the right specifications of heavy hex bolts is like finding the right piece for a puzzle. You need to consider several aspects. Below, Mr. Zhu from Chuanggu Combination Screws will tell you how to choose.

1. Consider the thickness of the connection

The connection is the thing that the bolts are going to connect together. You have to measure how thick the connection is in total. For example, if you want to connect two wooden boards, add the thickness of the two wooden boards together. Then the length of the bolt should be longer than the total thickness of the connection, generally 1 to 2 times the diameter of the bolt. It's like when you tie something with a rope, you have to leave a little extra part of the rope to tie it tightly. For example, if the total thickness of the connection is 20 mm and the bolt diameter is 5 mm, then the bolt length of 25 to 30 mm is more appropriate.

2. Look at the tension and pressure to be borne

In different places, the tension and pressure that the heavy hex bolts have to bear are different. Tension is the force pulling outward, and pressure is the force pushing inward. If it is used in places where stress is often applied, such as bridges and large machines, you have to choose thicker and stronger bolts. This is like choosing athletes, you have to choose strong ones to complete difficult tasks. Strength is generally expressed in grades, and common ones are 4.8, 8.8, 10.9, etc. The larger the number, the higher the strength. If it is used in places where stress is not applied, such as small furniture at home, you can choose thinner and lower-strength bolts.

3. Combined with the size of the installation space

The size of the installation space is also very important. If the space is very narrow, you have to choose smaller bolts, otherwise they will be too big to fit in. For example, in some small electronic equipment, the space is very small, and you have to use very small bolts. If the space is relatively large, you can choose heavy hex bolts of appropriate size according to other needs.

4. Consider the working environment

The working environment will also affect the choice of heavy hex bolts. If it is in a humid place, such as a bathroom or the seaside, you have to choose rust-proof bolts, such as stainless steel. Because ordinary iron bolts are easy to rust in a humid environment, and they are not strong when rusted. If you are in a high-temperature place, you have to choose bolts that can withstand high temperatures. Just like working in a very hot kitchen, you have to wear heat-resistant clothes.
